About My Book
Hi, I'm Risa.I'm studying food and culture in my university and I borrowed a book about them in the library.
So, I'll want to introduce the book.
The title is " Rice as Self" and the writer is Emiko Ohnuki-Tierney. That is published in 1993.
The reason why I chose the book is that I want to know the staple food for Japanese, "rice."
Actually, I had never thought about rice whie I was eating it, but I thoght I have little knowledge of rice when I was looking for a book although I'm Japanese. Also, it can be said that rice is the origin of Japanese food and it is impossible to talk about Japanese food without rice. So, that's why I chose this book.
This book is divided into nine parts. The book is written about especially Japanese rice from various angles. For instance, the business climate, the problem of importing, the process of becoming staple food, the policy of the ancient times and the present, the conflict between Japanese rice versus Western food and another countries' rice, the supreme power of Japanese life, the historical myth of each period of rice and so on. Like this, the book is composed of many perspectives; historical, economical and social, etc. Therefore, I'm convinced that I'll get a large stock of knowledge of rice after reading.
I'll continue to read the book and I want to deepen my knowledge more.
It sounds like your book is very interesting!!
返信削除I've always thought that if we were to learn about a different country we need to know about our own country. I hope you learn a lot about rice and the connection with Japan throughout the class :)
I think you chose nice book.
返信削除We japanese eat rice almost everyday, but actually I don't know so much about rice. So if you find some surprising facts, please tell me.
From a young age my parents always told me that I dont have to eat so much rice as it is gluten which may be fattening when eaten in big portions, but I sometimes hear that people who excersise alot should eat alot of rice....so I have a bad emage of rice but at the same time I dont exactly know so much about it.
返信削除Im looking forward to reading this blog to find out more about rice!!
RICE!! I always eat it with everything even the Okonomiyaki :) I wanna know about more about rice!
返信削除Rice is the most famous and typical food of Japan. It is the only food that can be self-sufficient. Recenlty, the number of people whi eat rice is decreasing. But, we should appreciate to eat.
返信削除I am interested in your book(^^)
Today in Japan, more people are eating bread rather than rice so it's very nice to have knowledge about rice and protect Japanese rice culture:)
返信削除In other class, I heard that rice which is eaten in Japan is a kind of "okayu" and other country's people eat called "mesi" so it seems that Japanese rice is not standard in the world though I thought such dry rice wasn't tasty. Anyway, I'm looking forward to reading this review!
